School Committee Update – Mr. Schultz

Current enrollment numbers for next school year are very similar to last year’s numbers at this time

“Come meet us’ night is tomorrow night. The hope is this event will allow parents to meet with teachers and possibly help with enrollment

The church is beginning the budget balancing process with the goal to have the budget ready in May. The question arises, “What do we have to do to make it all ‘work’ for next year?”

The % of families needing scholarship assistance for next year is approximately 34 families at this point.

The ½ day kindergarten will be offered next year at ¾ tuition rate.

A considerable amount of Zion school families are ‘waiting to see what the economy does’- enrollment for some of these families is still pending.

Principal’s Update – Mr. Schultz

Mr. Schultz is working with Bruce Baillie- they are looking at different materials for ground covering for the playground

Possibility of using a finer shred of wood material (‘hog fuel’). The estimate is we’d need 4 loads for the playground area @ $280/load.

May move some of the old wood chips (those that are currently on the playground) to other areas around the school/church (planters, under bushes, etc.)

Also are looking into a new containment system for the border of the playground (old railroad ties, telephone poles, etc.)

Upcoming Fundraisers

Papa’s Pizza night for Zion – April 21st

Tupperware fundraising event – TBD (Amy Hutchinson)

Auction Update – Bert Haase, Jennifer Klammer

Items and baskets are coming in

Need more volunteers for setup, cleanup and kitchen help

Jessy Elliot (former Zion student) is coming to do an opening performance for the adults and then interact with the kids

Activities for the kids and a movie- some of the middle school students will be helping supervise the kids

Science Fair/Spring Concert Follow-up

Most feedback so far was that it went well

Considering moving the science fair to the fall although there may possibly be a conflict with the Regional Qualifying Science fair (which is held the end of February)

Mr. Schultz and Mrs. Smith are seeking feedback from the science fair volunteer judges and people who helped with the fair. They may also ask for feedback from all parents.

Kelle Judah will be organizing carnival organizational meetings very soon
